Brain Matter

http://psyphz.psych.wisc.edu/web/News/Meditation_Alters_Brain_WSJ_11-04.htm
This is an amazing article published in the Wall Street Journal (this story has been published in multiple places, however) about neural plasticity.

Didn't I do some work on neural plasticity? Oh yeah, that work I did in Costa Rica. Hm.

In other news. I will be auditioning for Science Idol!!
Like, OMG! Well, it has more of a message than that Other idol show. Deadline July 31st... Workin on some entries.

Marine Conservation Biology Institute

Hello!
Writing you from my desk at my New Job!
I can't think of a better set-up; doing good work with good, nice people for a non-profit organization which helps conserve marine ecosystems and only a 1-minute walk from Glenn's work!! Can't think of anything better.
However. I still have to think about my wedding (have to print out the invitations, get rings, book a caterer, go with Glenn's mom to have her make my veil, get my dress tailored, finish the gift registry.... BAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! *BOOM!!*)
And, I have my oral presentation on the 19th of May at the Mary Gates Research Syposium and I still haven't done any damn thing for it.
But, the weather is nice, life is good, I have my own home, a nice dog and a fiance that loves me. Plus, I'm gonna buy me a bicycle soon!!

Let Me Blow Your Mind

...with cuteness. Here are pictures of Qanuk when she was a baby puppy. I took these photos before I knew I would eventually own her--Eileen had bought her for Glenn's birthday, but thought Glenn wouldn't want a dog, so she had been keeping Qanuk in her car for some time so a friend could finish moving into a new apartment, and take Qanuk (who at that time had been named Elka by Eileen). So Glenn and I came across Qanuk quite by chance; we were looking for Eileen's other dogs (Davey and Roger), so we opened up Eileen's trunk, and there was this mysterious little furball. So we took out this tiny little fluff and played with her on the lawn, and I couldn't resist taking some pictures. These are the only photos I have of Qanuk as a small puppy, since most of the rest of the summer I was out of the country, and when I came back she was the same dog you see today.

Photos from Oct 31st, 2005

I've had these photos for a while, but haven't had time to post them. Till now. It's finals week, so all I have to do is study (*psht!*).
I didn't take these, William (from EDGE) took these quality photos.
